Advice for musicians who aren’t enjoying their instrument as much anymore:

sarcastic-saxophonist:

If you can afford it, take several days off.  Four is generally a pretty good amount, but if you can’t go that long without playing for whatever reason, just take one day off.  It might seem like you absolutely need to force yourself to practice because of that audition or concert or whatever, but it really will help.  Then, when you practice again, play music that makes you happy. You’ve always wanted to learn how to play that one pop/rock/whatever song on your instrument? Learn it!  Have fun with it!  Play that old solo piece that you absolutely loved!  If you’re a reed instrumentalist, buy those new reeds that you’ve always wanted to try out.  Get some of your best musician friends with you and play around.  Just spend some time having fun!  Play around and remind yourself why you love your instrument!  It will help in the long run, I promise.
