If someone online asks, “Are you gay?” Yes, that can be crossing a line and one should refrain from doing this because that’s a very personal thing, but it can be coming from a place of complete innocence. What is not needed is someone else responding with “OF COURSE HE/SHE ISN’T! HOW DARE YOU??” As if being gay is a horrible, slanderous accusation. I didn’t think this was necessary to say, but, alas, this happens all too frequently. “Gay” should never be an insult.
